Argyle lady Eagles captured their third consecutive state championship with a 40-30 win over Liberty Hill.
The scoring for Argyle started with freshman Brooklyn Carl hitting a 3-pointer in the opening minutes. The score stayed 3-0 until late in the first quarter when the teams combined to score 11 points in the last 3:20. It was capped off with Liberty Hill hitting a 3-pointer at the first quarter buzzer to end the period with the game tied, 7-7.
At the end of the second quarter, it was Argyle's turn to beat the buzzer. Gabby Standifer hit a contested 3-pointer to give Argyle a 17-13 lead at intermission. In the second half, Liberty Hill failed to score until deep in the third quarter. After three, they trailed Argyle 28-22.
Argyle, once up by as many as 11, saw the lead dwindle down to just three points. With 31 seconds though, Carl came up with a huge steal and the Lady Eagles went on to finish the game and secure the three-peat.
