In a heartfelt letter posted on Twitter, Irving football coach Aaron De La Torre announced he had resigned from his position on Tuesday. He will become an assistant on Denton Ryan's staff.

De La Torre said it was a personal decision and was done so in order to spend more time with his family.

"Ultimately, one of our family goals is for my sons and I to experience the game of football together on the same team," De La Torre wrote in his letter. "While being the Head Football coach at Irving that goal is unattainable."

De La Torre had been an assistant at Ryan before taking over at Irving, his alma mater, in 2012. De La Torre's youngest son, Kolt, is entering the eighth grade and will go to Ryan in 2019. His oldest, Alex, played at Ryan before moving on to play at Texas. Alex returned to coach at Ryan in 2016.

De La Torre also spoke in his letter about attending more of his daughter, Adyson's, volleyball games. He only made four last season.

"Having the ability to work with both my sons and see my daughter more is something I cannot let pass me by," De La Torre wrote.
