Coach of the Year: Duane Gregory, Mansfield Timberview
For the second time in three seasons, Gregory led Mansfield Timberview to the Class 5A state championship, fitting his fast transition offense to the skills of all players. Aside from consecutive losses in late December, Gregory coached Timberview to two 19-game winning streaks, punctuating the last with a revenge triumph over San Antonio Cole in the Class 5A state final. Timberview won its two state tournament games by an average of 18.5 points and finished the season 38-2, the most wins of any Dallas-area UIL program this season. Gregory has been at Timberview since it opened in 2004, spending the last 10 years at the program's helm.

Newcomer of the Year: Trae Clayton, Oak Cliff Faith Family
Year: Freshman
Position: Forward
Height: 6-4
Notable: In his first high school campaign, Clayton was crucial to Faith Family's historic season. The rookie capped his breakout year with one of the most impressive freshman performances in recent state tournament history. After scoring 24 points in a regional final upset win over No. 1 Wilmer-Hutchins, Clayton combined for 50 points and 19 rebounds while shooting 66.7 percent (22 of 33) from the field in wins over Houston Yates in the state semifinals and Liberty Hill in the state championship. His experience, and a young returning core, likely positions Faith Family for deep playoff contention throughout Clayton's tenure.
