Justin Northwest's Prince Mavula

What he did: Mavula completed 22 of 30 passes for 371 yards and seven touchdowns in a win over McKinney North. Mavula also rushed for two touchdowns. His six passing touchdowns in the first half put him on pace to break the state record of 10 passing touchdowns in a game but he sat for much of the second half as the game appeared out of reach.

Who is he: A junior quarterback.

The stats: Mavula has completed 71 percent of his passes this season for 634 yards and seven touchdowns. He has run for three touchdowns this year.

He said it: "It's the best. There's no better feeling. I was really excited to be honest. It felt right. I try to take it play by play, don't get too nervous and know my assignments. I hope to get the same numbers next week. I'm coming for that record (for single-game passing TDs). That record will be mine."

Coach said it: "Everything was clicking for him. He read everything right. He was on-target, on-money on just about everything he did. I know that he has the ability to do so but just the connection, the chemistry that he has with our wide receiver core, it was pretty awesome to see." -Bill Poe

Did you know? This is Mavula's first season as a full-time starter ... Mavula sprints for Northwest's track team and competed in the triple jump and long jump ... He has received interest from schools like Oklahoma State, TCU and Tulsa ... Northwest plays rival Trophy Club Byron Nelson next week.
