Argyle's Jackson Maupin
What he did: In a week that saw Argyle post playoff wins over Stephenville and Snyder, Maupin rose to the occasion by setting a single-game school record with 10 3-pointers in the first of the two victories. Maupin ended the night with 36 points, accounting for nearly half of the team's 21 shots from beyond the arc. He followed it up with 17 points vs. Snyder.
The stats: Maupin's 10 threes broke his own school record (9) that he set earlier this school year vs. Bridgeport. Maupin ended the week averaging 26.5 points per game. His scoring efforts this year helped lead Argyle, ranked No. 8 in the state, to a first-place finish in District 8-4A play during the regular season.
Who is he? Maupin, a 6-1 junior, is ranked the No. 99 player from Texas in the Class of 2020.
He said it: "It was a crazy game [vs. Stephenville] altogether. I felt hot before the game and wasn't even thinking about it. I got in the zone and stayed in the zone. I didn't realize it was the record, but I set it earlier with nine and then I broke my own record. It's crazy to know that I'm rewriting history and engraved in the school's history. It's a big confidence booster knowing that our whole team was hot that day."
Coach said it: "He had a special week. His ability to shoot is what he's gifted in. We see it all the time every day in practice. It's fun to watch, our kids get excited and when he shoots, everybody in the gym knows it's going in." -- Russell Perkins
Did you know? Maupin's basketball career dates back to when his father began coaching him as a six-year-old. He aspires to play at the collegiate level and looks at both his father and Houston Rockets point guard James Harden as role models. Off the hardwood, Maupin has a passion for cooking.
